It takes a pillar style mold to make these candles. The next basic type of candle, is the container candle. For beginners this is the best kind to start with. It doesn’t require any kind of mold, you just find a good container of any kind, like a jar, and fill it with your soy wax on top of a wick. You set the wick, melt the wax, pour it, let it cool. Nothing could me more simple or more easy. A good thing about using soy wax is that if it runs over or gets onto something, it cleans up quite easily with only soap and water. And it also melts really good inside a microwave, which makes things even easier still. When making a candle, your fragrance and your wax are its heart and soul. Fragrance oil is easy to find, at any candle shop or many craft shops. But be sure they sell it to you by volume and not weight. When it comes to your dye, you can buy it in different forms. Most of the time you’ll find it in block form. These highly colorized blocks of wax easily be melted in with your soy wax in order to reach your desired color. Sometimes the dye will be in chip form. This works just as well. And other times it may be in liquid form. One or two drops will be enough to color your soy candles very well. One of the most important parts of making these candles is the way you handle the wicks. Wicks are the determining factor for how the candle is going to burn. In general, the wick size should be in relation to the diameter of the container. It’s not a rule that’s hard and fast, but just a sort of guideline for those who are just starting out. Using the tabbed wicks is the way to go, they already have the metal disc attached. Taking a look at making soy candles may cause you to want to make some of your own.
